Chocó. The main highway and source of life of the “Chocoanos”, the Atrato River, is preparing for an unprecedented transformation that will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants by boosting mobility and the local economy.
Along 333 kilometers of route on the river, the National Navy, Cotecmar and the National Army, in a work articulated with the Governor and the municipal Mayors, presented to the communities the impact of the works and identified the coordinates to arrive in the sites with the infrastructure
The project is founded with resources of the General Royalty System of the nation provided by the Government of Chocó and includes the installation of 13 piers on the Atrato River, five on the Baudó river and 11 on the San Juan. Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense will provide additional $ 769,333,333 pesos to install two more piers, one in Carmen del Darién and the other in the middle Baudó.
Jhon Esmir Lobon, President of the Community Council Domingodó said that "the project benefits all of us, because we do not have to take the loads anywhere, but we will have a specific place that gives us comfort".
With these works, the population hopes that public and private institutions have more facility to access the distant territories and thus be able to provide the assistance required to meet their basic needs.
