Meta. The troops deployed in La Macarena, Meta, are not only engaged to military operations but in the same way to the well-being of their people and the preservation of the environment. They are currently conducting operations in the National Parks Tinigua and Sierra de La Macarena, the operation "Águila", which has obtained important results that benefit this area of the country.
In the framework of the operation "Águila" three people were captured. They were in charge of the invasion of areas of special ecological importance and damage the natural resources; they were put in prison. In the same way, eight chainsaws were found and 18 areas of the National Natural Parks that were in deforestation process, were intervened.
In the same way, in this military operation, the National Commission for the Control of Deforestation was created within the framework of the Stabilization and Consolidation Campaign Plan "Victoria Plus" and the Decree 1257 of 2017.
During the two days of this operation, the units deployed their troops on land and air supported by Remotely Manned Aircraft of the Colombian Air Force, to identify the areas consumed by the crime of deforestation.
The Ministry of Environment said that the area of Tinigua National Natural Park, has lost 1,410 hectares. Finally, so far 2018, about 5,000 hectares have been reported deforested in this protected area.
The members of the National Police specialized in the environment, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) and the Attorney General's Office, contributed to this important operation and subsequent successful outcome.
