Cartagena. In recent hours, units of the National Navy, in a joint operation with the Colombian Air Force, and with the Attorney General of the Nation and with Customs and Border Protection - CBP, in implementation of the Sea Port Cooperation program – SEACOP, of the European Union, they prevented the trafficking of more than one ton of cocaine hydrochloride, capturing 15 people who carried out the contamination of a merchant ship that went the port of Antwerp - Belgium.
The operation against the transnational drug trafficking organizations, which commit crimes in the Colombian Caribbean, took place in waters near Barranquilla, where Rapid Reaction Units of the Barranquilla Coastguard Station and Aircrafts of the Air Combat Command 3, intercepted the Singaporean merchant ship "Cap. San Tainaro ", under suspicion of contamination.
With the support of an aircraft of the Colombian Air Force and a naval helicopter of the National Navy, the motorboat, which was 21 nautical miles of the coast, was escorted to the anchoring area of the Port of Barranquilla, where an inspection to the containers took place, finding inside one of them, 38 sacks containing 1,144 rectangular packages, which were analyzed, leaving positive result for 1,144 kilograms of hydrochloride cocaine.
The alkaloids and the 15 individuals captured were put into custody of the authority for their judicial processes.
The drug belonged to the organized criminal group known as “Clan del Golfo del Golfo", which with the support of an allied drug trafficking structure, would be commercializing the drug in the European black market, where it would cost more than 66 million dollars.
