In an operation of the National Police with the support of the Colombian Air Force, it was possible to rescue the engineer Hugo Ariza Olarte, 58, kidnapped since the last July 23, in the municipality of Chaparral, south of Tolima. Kidnapers demanded 300 million pesos for his release.
After carrying out the relevant coordination with the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Police, the Air Force, through the Air Combat Command No. 4, arranged and aircraft equipped with the highest technology to overflew the sector, determining the position of the communication equipment used by the kidnappers.
Immediately the Police’s Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) intervened by land, achieving the release satisfactorily. The man was transported in a Huey II helicopter of the Air Force to the city of Ibagué, where he reunited with his family.
