Due to the earthquakes that have been reported in recent days in central Colombia, with epicenter in the municipality of Planadas, in the department of Tolima, the Commander of the Air Combat Command No. 4, attended a meeting convened in Ibagué, where an extraordinary Departmental Council for Disaster Risk Management took place.
The meeting was chaired by the Director of Risk Management of Tolima and the Secretary of Environment, headed by the Governor of Tolima and other local institutions such as the president of the Red Cross, Department Firefighters, Commanders of the Military Forces and National Police who responsibility in the Department of Tolima, as well as the Secretary of Departmental Health, Civil Defense, among others, in order to evaluate the seismic phenomenon reported in the department of Tolima, specifically in the southern zone in limits with the departments of Cauca and Huila.
The Colombian Air Force is in readiness with its aircraft and crews, conducting surveillance and permanent monitoring on the outskirts of the Nevado del Huila, through air checks and satellite observation.
"Although there have only been some structural damage to houses in this municipality and its surroundings, fortunately there are no fatal victims," said the Governor of Tolima, Óscar Barreto Quiroga, who reiterated the importance of prevention and effective communication for these cases.
However, all the institutions are on alert, and the Air Force available with their aircraft to react to any event that may arise, equipped with rescue teams and crews and recovery personnel highly trained, ready 24 hours a day to get to any place where they need them.
Colonel Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez Suarez, commander of CACOM 4, calls on the citizens to remain calm and to be attentive to the official reports of the relief agencies, inviting them in the same way not to believe or spread the messages circulating on social networks, since the earthquakes are not predictable. On the other hand, if citizens detect landslides in a specific sector, they must inform the authorities immediately.
