During the first month of deployment of troops in the Military and Police Campaign 'Aquiles' has been achieved the capture of 76 individuals, the finding of 36 firearms, more than 4,000 cartridges for rifle and 16 fragmentation grenades; 22 laboratories of drug production have been neutralized.
In military operations conducted by units of the Seventh Division jointly, coordinately and interagency with the National Navy, the Colombian Air Force, the National Police and the Prosecutor, important results have been achieved, and so it has been possible to directly hit the logistical and criminal structures of the organized armed groups that commit crimes in the Bajo Cauca, in the department of Antioquia and the south of Córdoba.
The first military operation was reported in the village of El Tigre, rural area of Caucasia, lower Cauca, in the department of Antioquia. Guided by military intelligence information, the troops arrived at a place where alias 'El Mudo' tried to hide of the operations. This individual, is one of the most wanted in the cartel of killers of social leaders. He would be part of the criminal structure of the organized armed group known as 'Los Caparrapos'. The individual, 45, was a guerrilla of the Farc’s Front 36, and a member of the AUC (United Self-Defense groups of Colombia) - Mineros Bloc; he had demobilized in 2006 from this structure.
Alias 'El Mudo', has arrest warrants in force for the crimes of aggravated conspiracy, forced displacement, trafficking, carrying of weapons and ammunition, as well as homicide. He had in his possession a firearm, ammunition, a fragmentation grenade and communications equipment. The authorities wanted alias “El Mudo”, and offered a reward of up to 500 million pesos.
Meanwhile, alerted by the Civic Participation Network, the units of the Seventh Division arrived at the Canyon of Iglesias, El Embaretado village, rural area of Tarazá, where they fought against members of Los Caparrapos, who according to the investigation would be extorting, controlling routes and drug trafficking business in the area.
In the firefight, a member of that organized armed group was killed and one more was wounded, who was provide with basic assistance by means of first aid maneuvers achieving his stabilization, later he was evacuated in a helicopter of the National Army Aviation. The troops found the two men with a rifle, a pistol, ammunition of different calibers, military accessories and communications equipment.
Finally, in the municipality of El Cedro in the municipality of Ayapel, south of Córdoba, in another military operation, there was a fight against the substructure Francisco Mórelo Pénate of the GAO Clan del Golfo, in charge of the illegal rents through the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits and drug trafficking, where three individuals were captured.
One of them was wounded, being immediately treated by military combat nurses, who gave him first aid, then he was evacuated in a National Army helicopter. Two firearms, ammunition, military accessories material, documentation of the organized armed group and communications equipment, are part of the confiscated material.
These operations, added to the efforts made by nearly 4,500 men of the Seventh Division, have led to a significant improvement in the security conditions in Antioquia's Lower Cauca, as evidenced by a decrease in homicides in January, compared to the same month of the previous year.
