Nearly 30 million pesos in smuggled merchandise, as assessed by the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN), were confiscated by Coast Guard Units of the Colombian Navy, in the area of the Gulf of Morrosquillo.
The result took place thanks to the timely reaction of the Coast Guard Unit of Coveñas, who carried out the maritime interdiction, after the ship 'Sea Dolphin' from Panama, which was manned by seven individuals, did not respond to the constant calls of the Maritime Traffic Control Tower.
Upon inspecting the ship, which sailed from the area of Sapzurro, in the department of Chocó, bound for Cartagena, in the department of Bolivar, troops found contraband merchandise camouflaged in the middle of a shipment of coconuts. The units determine that the crew of the ship did not have the documentation issued by the DIAN.
Within the confiscated material that was intended to be sold illegally in Colombia, there are more than 7,500 packets, equivalent to 150,000 units of cigarettes and more than 1,100 units of products for home and personal care.
The confiscated material was put into custody of the Directorate of Taxes and National Customs (DIAN).
