In the framework of the operation that the Colombian Navy holds in the Pacific Coast against the Organized Armed Group ELN, 400 kilograms of pentolite-type explosives were found in the rural area of the municipality of Timbiquí in Cauca, which would be used in terrorist attacks.
The operation was carried out by troops of the Marine Infantry Brigade No. 2, of the Pacific Naval Force, who, thanks to information from naval intelligence, found an illegal hideout where the ELN had buried three 55 gallon barrels, with the explosive.
The explosive was extracted from the area, to be subsequently destroyed under controlled conditions. According to the Colombian Military Industry -Indumil, a state company in charge of manufacturing firearms, ammunition and explosives in Colombia, pentolite is a result of the mixture of Trinitrotoluene or TNT with Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate, known as PETN.
It is a powerful explosive chemical, sensitive to heat and friction, frequently used by the ELN to carry out terrorist operations in the country. It should be remembered that this Organized Armed Group used 80 kilograms of this explosive, in the terrorist attack on the School of Police Cadets "General Francisco de Paula Santander", in which 22 young people lost their lives and 68 people were injured.
This finding, becomes one of the largest results of the Navy of Colombia in the field of explosives during the course of 2019, which represents an important impact to that Armed Organized Group that commits crimes in this area of the country.
