In an operation of Maritime Interdiction, Units of the Navy of Colombia, safeguard the lives of 57 foreigners and capture two individuals, who transported illegally the migrants on board a motorboat, in the municipality of Capurganá , in the municipality of Acandí, in the department of Chocó.
The motorboat “La Coral del Mar” manned by two individuals, was intercepted by a Unit of the Urabá Coastguard Station, at the time it was transporting 57 foreigners from Bangladesh, China, India and Pakistan, violating all security measures at the sea and endangering the lives of these people, who tried to make transit to Central America.
The group of foreigners was transferred to the municipality of Carpuganá, where they were put into custody of Migración Colombia. In the same way, the two individuals were captured and put into custody of the Prosecutor's Office, in the municipality of Acandí, for the alleged crime of migrant smuggling.
In the same way, in coordination with Migración Colombia, greater controls have been generated in the country and to face the transit of irregular migrants by Norte de Santander or Nariño, towards the Gulf of Urabá.
The Navy of Colombia, through the Coast Guard Station of Urabá, in 2018 and so far in 2019, has achieved the recovery of 751 irregular migrants, the capture of 40 people for the crime of migrant smuggling and has detained 19 ships for not complying with maritime regulations.
