In the framework of the Bicentenary campaign plan, troops of the National Army and the Attorney General's Office, prevented possible terrorist operations that the organized armed group Eln intended to commit through the use of powerful explosive material.
The discovery of the explosive material was possible as a result of military intelligence work carried out for more than six months by men of the Thirtieth Brigade, who with the support and coordination of the Technical Corps of Investigations CTI of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, found a hideout where the explosive was hidden.
After the corresponding institutional coordination, men of the Mechanized Cavalry Group No. 5 General Hermógenes Maza, the Special Forces Battalion No. 2 and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps), arrived at the sector known as El Madrigal, an urban area of Cúcuta, where they found this material hidden.
When the established safety protocols were complied, 10 sacks with 600 kilograms of a substance with a pink-colored granular composition were analyzed. Units of the explosives group (MARTE) of the National Army, and men of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) established that it was ANFO.
In the operation, no arrests were made and the explosive material was put into custody of the authority.
