Troops of the National Army deployed in Antioquia lower Cauca killed in military operations a member of the GAO “Clan del Golfo” and a member of the substructure Virgilio Peralta Arenas, also known as 'Caparrapos'.
The first event occurred in the municipality El Bagre. There, alerted by the Civic Participation Network on a group of suspected individuals, the troops reacted to prevent that criminal plans from being consummated. When the soldiers arrived in the place a firefight took place, whose result was the death of a member of the 'Clan del Golfo', Francisco Morelo Peñate substructure, and the capture of three individuals. One of them was injured and was treated by military combat nurses, who had been shot minutes before by himself.
In this operation, two firearms, ammunition and communications equipment were found, which, together with the detainees, were put into custody of the authorities for their respective judicial process.
The second result occurred in the municipality El Pando, rural area of Caucasia, in the department of Antioquia. The military arrived in the place and engaged combat against the substructure Virgilio Peralta Arenas 'Caparrapos', and then alias 'Cigarrillo', member of this organized armed group who had attacked the troops with a submachine gun, died.
This GAO would be part of the criminal network that has been planning the execution of selective homicides in that region, in a territorial criminal dispute over the control of illegal income resulting of the illegal exploitation of mining deposits, extortion and drug trafficking.
This year, in the northwest of the country, 14 members of organized armed groups (GAO) have died in military operations, 561 have been captured and 56 have voluntary surrendered; in the same way, more than 2,400 hectares of illicit plantations have been eradicated.
