In the fight against the extortion made from the jails, troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) – Meta, of the National Army in coordination with the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Police, in the frame of inter-institutional support with the Second Specialized Prosecutor's Office, achieve the dismantling of the criminal group 'Los Tesos', composed of nine individuals that perpetrated through money transfer companies extortions by means of the Tío Tío (Uncle uncle) modality.
Since 2018, the authorities began investigating and prosecuting this criminal group consisting of four men and five women, who used the Tío Tío extortion modality through a telephone call made by an individual posing as a relative who simulates the situation of being captured.
The delinquents tell their victims that a nephew was captured by the Security forces in possession of a firearm or drugs and they must sent money in a money transfer company, these people pretended to be members of the Security forces in order to put pressure on their victims and achieve their task.
Simultaneously, in the same operation in order to mitigate prison extortion, it is achieved, thanks to a search warrant, the search in the Penitentiary Center of the municipality of Acacías, where it is possible to find communications equipment and materials useful for intelligence that are vital for the judicial process conducted by the Office of the Prosecutor.
Those captured were put into custody of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office No.2 of in the department ofMeta, for the crimes of aggravated extortion and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The Military Gaula - Meta reiterates the call to the civilian population so that, in case of any suspicion of extortion, they denounce through the line 147 and provide the opportune information to achieve the capture of the perpetrators of extortion.
