In manual demining work carried out in rural area of the municipality of Doncello, in the department of Caquetá, military of the Battalion of Engineers of Humanitarian Demining No.1, ended three years of fear generated by the presence of explosive devices.
More than 1,000 square meters of Las Delicias village were cleared, achieving the discovery and destruction of three antipersonnel mines.
According to the inhabitants, the cleared zone is intended to be declared as a protected area to maintain and preserve water reserves near the properties that will directly benefit 23 people and indirectly 30 families in the sector and the Peñas Negras district.
In the presentation of the property, the president of the Association of Boards of the municipality of Doncello, José Reinaldo Rodríguez Sánchez, thanked the operation of the mine clearance specialists: "We are very grateful, since Caquetá was really an area of conflict for 50 years and The humanitarian demining in this area is a very valuable action, and the soldiers are men who are very committed to our community wellbeing.”
On the other hand, José Albeiro Ascencio Núñez, vice president of the Peñas Negras district, said: "I appreciate the operation carried out by the mine clearance specialists since we can return to work in this land and walk calmly because they brought out the fear of the mines that had been here before. A very special greeting for all the soldiers that worked to eliminate that fear ".
In that municipality, soldiers have decontaminated 3,857 square meters and destroyed nine explosive devices.
