In the framework of the Plan Protecting your Territory in areas prioritized by the National Government, soldiers of the Thirtieth Brigade belonging to the Second Division of the National Army, neutralized a terrorist attack which was intended to hit the good physical condition of the troops.
Once the facts were known, the men of the Explosive Device control group MARTE of the Army, moved to the hamlet El Empalme on the Astilleros - Tibú road, and with the support of the trained dogs they established the exact point where the improvised explosive device, gas cylinder type, which would have been planted by members of the Organized Armed Group Residual Substructure 33.
Immediately the established security protocols were activated and the corresponding neutralization was carried, preventing so the indiscriminate attack on the troops, and cause an explosion in the gas pipeline.
It was possible to establish that the destructive power of this explosive device had reached a 10 meters around which would have caused a great impact on the civilian population, the environment and the Security forces.
The troops of the Mechanized Cavalry Group No. 5 General Hermogenes Maza, temporarily closed the road to conduct the respective procedures and thus prevent collateral damage, restoring in the shortest possible time the transit of vehicles.
