A mother and her one-day-old baby belonging to the indigenous people of the Sikuani ethnic group, presented medical complications after childbirth in the inhabitants of Güerima, Vichada, for this reason they were received by military medical personnel in a C208 Caravan aircraft, evacuating the patients to the city of Puerto Carreño, for their subsequent transfer by ambulance to the departmental hospital.
During the flight that lasted one hour and thirty minutes, the mother received intravenous fluids and monitoring of vital signs, maintain her stable with the newborn until arriving at the airport of the capital city of Vichada.
This humanitarian aeromedical evacuation mission was carried out on an unprepared runway and under night conditions, thanks to the human and technical resources of the Colombian Aerospace Force, through the Air Combat Command No. 2 CACOM 2, which spreads its wings of hope to hard-to-reach areas, with the firm purpose of continuing to save lives.
Humanitarian assistance to the indigenous communities of the Orinoquía is a permanent and a priority mission carried out by the members of the Colombian Aerospace Force, which leads to safeguarding the well-being of civilians, overcoming the difficult geographical and meteorological conditions in the region.
