On the occasion of the celebration of World Water Day, the National Army carries out different activities throughout the national territory, in order to guarantee its protection and conservation.
As an initiative of the United Nations, World Water Day is celebrated every March 22, in order to raise awareness among the population about the importance of its conservation and protection, as well as the defense of the sustainable management of resources.
That is why the Military Engineers of the National Army join this campaign, carrying out activities to promote clean water and sustainable aquatic habitats, because in many municipalities of the country don’t have this service and must go to rivers and streams to get it.
Activities
In Nariño, the Engineers Battalion No. 23, "Coronel Agustín Angarita Niño", with the support of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Nariño (Corponariño), makes a reforestation activities day near the river Pasto by planting 500 native trees.
In the municipality of Circasia, department of Quindío, Multi mission Soldiers of the Battalion of Engineers No. 8, "Francisco Javier Cisneros", with the help of the City Hall, Environmental Promoters of the Autonomous Corporation of Quindío (CRQ) and the community, planted 250 trees to protect El Roble River.
In Chaparral, Tolima, 6 Soldiers and an Officer of the Humanitarian Demining Engineers Battalion No.2, with the support of the Cortolima Environmental Authority, planted 150 trees on the Santa Helena stream and held environmental conferences, benefiting more than 50 families in the area.
On the other hand, the Environmental Section of the Command of Military Engineers linked to this celebration by promoting various activities that could impact the population and raise awareness about the importance of this day through the different Brigades of the National Army.
During the day, there was planting of trees, collection of solid waste to take it out from water sources, conferences with the community and radio campaigns. These activities counted on the Brigade No. 29 in the department of Cauca, the Brigade No. 5 in Santander, the Brigade No. 30 in Norte de Santander, Brigade No. 28 in Vichada, Brigade No. 18 in Arauca, Brigade No. 1 in Boyacá, Brigade No.9 in Huila, Brigade No. 15 in Chocó, the Brigade N ° 26 in Leticia, Amazonas and the Brigade N ° 31 in Vaupés.
