The VITA International Exercise, with the aim of maintaining the highest level of operational readiness and guaranteeing an adequate and effective response to a humanitarian crisis, began the great activity conducted by March 10 and 18 with the Surgical Activity at the San Rafael Hospital in San Juan del Cesar, in the department of La Guajira.
A combined and joint work conducted by the Bravo Task Force of the United States Southern Command and the Colombian Military Forces, the Mayor's Office of San Juan and the San Rafael Hospital of this municipality, initiated the activity to conduct previously coordinated general surgeries.
The medical interventions are carried out by the medical mission of the Bravo Task Force and Colombian health professionals of the Hospital. At the end of the activity, they met 20 patients.
This binational team, in parallel, will work with all its capabilities from March 11 for the communities of the municipality of Uribia, in La Guajira, to provide care in general medicine, dentistry, pediatrics, among other services, in the Wayúu communities of Carrizal, Tres Bocas, Porshina and Jojoncito.
During the morning, Major General Hugo Alejandro López Barreto, Commander of Joint Command No. 1 'Caribe', and Colonel Steven Barry, Commander of Task Force Bravo, were received by the Mayor of San Juan, the Secretary of Health and the Hospital manager, in a meeting of familiarity and solidarity, highlighting the importance of this type of humanitarian mission, as well as the capacity of growing in this issues.
