In two fluvial and border control operations carried out by Colombian Navy Units, belonging to the Southern Naval Force, it was possible to find 1,370 kilos of fish Calophysus maplantationterus, known as Mota, in waters of the Putumayo River.
The two operations were carried out in the main dock of the municipality of Puerto Leguízamo and in the sector known as Bocas del Caucaya in rural Puerto Leguízamo, Putumayo department.
The material, which on both operations, was transported aboard a river passenger ship, was seized because the National Authority for Aquaculture and Fisheries has prohibited the capture, commercialization, and collection in all the Colombian territory of this fish also known as Mota, mapurito, simi or comegente, due to the high levels of mercury it has.
The material found was put into custody of the authority. During the operations, no arrests were made.
