By sea and air we continue to distribute humanitarian aid in the Archipelago.
13.4 tons of humanitarian aid consisting of 675 food kits that will benefit the families that have been hit since the declaration of the humanitarian emergency caused by COVID-19, were transported by the Colombian Navy and the General Maritime Directorate-DIMAR, from the island of San Andrés to the island of Providencia aboard the ship ARC "Roncador".
On this occasion, the multipurpose ship, which has mainly been employed for scientific research operations, maritime signaling, and preservation of the sea environment in the Colombian Caribbean, was in charge of transporting dry supplies and the men and women who make up its crew. Fresh groceries managed by the Departmental Government were sent in order to benefit 690 families on the island.
The Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia with its components of the Colombian Navy, the National Army and the Colombian Air Force, have worked inter-institutionally with the departmental government, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management - UNGRD, the Colombian Civil Defense and the Red Cross in order to reach the different neighborhoods and benefit the most vulnerable people in the archipelago.
This recent support is complemented by the arrival of flight ARC 703 of the Colombian Navy to the island of San Andrés, which transported from the city of Bogotá a ton of humanitarian aid donated by the private sector which will be distributed by the navy, the Soldiers and Patrolmen of the Security forces.
