In a military operation carried out, on Sunday, August 16, by the Magdalena Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and the High Mountain Battalion No. 6, of the National Army, with inter-institutional support with the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General Office, it was possible to react in a timely manner after receiving a call on the toll-free national line 147, where they were warned of the kidnapping of Mr. Manuel Guillermo Bustos Becerra and Mr. Robinson Alfonso Ayala Fonseca, who had been summoned by criminals to allegedly rent the heavy machinery they were driving, which finally ended in an illegal detention, with the demand of 30 million pesos as extortion payment.
Immediately, troops began their intelligence work and managed to intercept the vehicle on the road in the Puente Aguja district, in the banana-producing region. The criminals, noticing the presence of the National Army, confronted the soldiers, and upon seeing the military superiority they escaped the place leaving the kidnapped behind.
The released men were attended by combat nurses, who took them to a medical center in Santa Marta, where they received protocols to verify their health and meet their families.
