In a search and control operation, the Colombian Navy seized 1,742,000 packs of contraband cigarettes that were transported by seven colombians aboard a boat from Panama and is considered the largest seizure of cigarettes in the Golfo de Urabá.
The seizure was made with information from Naval Intelligence with units attached to the Caribbean Naval Force, who located the suspected boat 40 nautical miles northwest of Cerro Águila, Antioquia and conducted its interception timely.
During the inspection, 1,742,000 packs of cigarettes were found without the documentation proving their origin or the import receipt by the National Tax and Customs Directorate - DIAN.
The merchandise, commercially valued at more than 6,621 million pesos, was put into custody of the DIAN for the corresponding seizure procedure. And the seven Colombians, carrying the contraband, were placed at the custody of the Urabá Fiscal and Customs Police.
