This year the Humanitarian Demining Company No. 1 has destroyed 23 explosive devices.
The Colombian Navy destroyed an Anti-Personnel Mine (MAP in Spanish) and an 81-millimeter grenade in the rural area of El Carmen de Bolívar, in Bolívar, which would have endangered the wellbeing and life of the community of this region.
The first explosive device was found by a farmer on a farm in the village of El Callao, municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar, where troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No. 13 and Humanitarian Demining Company No. 1, identified that this device corresponded to an Anti-Personnel Mine, balloon pump type, loaded with two kilograms of explosives.
On the other hand, a minor found an 81-millimeter grenade with 500 grams of explosives in the village of El Cauca, in the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar, on a rural road during a bicycle tour.
The devices were detonated in a controlled manner by expert and highly trained personnel of Humanitarian Demining Company No. 1, fulfilling international safety protocols in the handling of explosive devices.
It should be noted that the indiscriminate activation of this type of devices with a lethal explosion capacity between 30 and 35 meters around, was used more than a decade ago by outlaw groups to affect the wellbeing and life of civilians who moved through rural areas of the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar.
The Naval institution reminds the inhabitants that in case of finding an unknown element around the roads, farms or rural areas, must not get closer and should notify the authorities for the control of the emergency.
