In the framework of the permanent operation of the Colombian Navy against the factors of instability in the Montes de María, the Military Joint Elite Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) No.1 strengthens with all its logistical and human resources the operations in this Colombian Caribbean subregion.
This unit, attached to the General Command of the Military Forces is composed of men of the Colombian Navy, the National Army and the Colombian Air Force, highly trained for offensive, intelligence and prevention operations, in the framework of planning and execution of anti-kidnapping and anti-extortion operations.
Among its tactical resources are close combat, urban combat, air assault, high-precision shooters and water operations; resources at the service of security in the subregion of the Montes de María.
In fulfillment of its mission, the Military National Joint Elite Gaula No.1, combats all crimes against personal freedom, especially extortion and kidnapping, in the 15 municipalities that make up the subregion, making emphasis on the campaign: Yo no pago, yo denuncio (I don't pay, I denounce), which invites citizens to report through the toll-free national 147.
In the same way, from the prevention area, advice and training on kidnapping and extortion and their modalities and correct behaviors in a situation of risk is provided to civilians.
