In the military operation carried out in the south of Tolima, abundant war material hidden in spare parts for vehicles was seized. This material, which would cost about 100 million pesos, was intended to be trafficked through a national shipping company bound for the department of Cauca.
In an urban area of the municipality of Melgar, soldiers of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Tolima, of the Sixth Brigade of the National Army, intercepted a vehicle of a national shipping company that was carrying approximately 345 kilograms of war material camouflaged into vehicle spare parts, it was a shipment destined for the Department of Cauca.
This result was possible thanks to the work of Military Intelligence of the Joint Command of the West, that was able to establish the plans of the residual organised armed group Adan Izquierdo, together with the Colombian Air Force and coordinated with the Judicial Police of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Prosecutor's office 164 Specialized Against Criminal Organizations.
In total, troops found 14,037 cartridges caliber 5.56 mm, 800 linked cartridges caliber 5.56 mm, a metal magazine caliber 5.56, for a total 14,837 cartridges, which have an estimated cost close to 100 million pesos.
This is the second largest finding in the country so far in 2020 and it was possible thanks to the coordinated work conducted by the National Army, Colombian Air Force and Attorney General's Office, resulting in the prevention of criminal operations by armed groups that intend to commit attacks against civilians and Military Forces in different parts of the country.
