With a services activity, residents of five hamlets of the municipality of San Martín benefited. The objective of the activity was to close a project of great impact and rapid execution (GIRE in Spanish).
The National Army, through the Sixth Division, the Professional Officers of the Reserve, following guidelines of the Department of Comprehensive Action and Development of the National Army, conducted a services activity in Santo Domingo, in the municipality of Florencia, Caquetá, where 245 social services were given to people.
The activity that was accompanied by the battalion of Military Engineers No.12 General Liborio Mejía, the Comprehensive Action and Development Support Battalion No.6, as well as the Program Fe en Colombia, had as its epicenter the facilities of the company for Business Development and agro-industrial of food baskets that were prepared general medicine, medicines distribution, vaccination of felines and canines, oral hygiene talks and Recreation.
This activity was focused on closing a GIRE project, which began to be carried out in October with 35 families, consisting in the installation of community plantations in which vegetables were sown so that the inhabitants of this sector do not suffer the consequences of the shortage of this type of products when closures occur on the Florencia – Suaza way.
"Today it is being implemented in several cities of the country as a closure activity of this project that consists of supporting the inhabitants and the most vulnerable community. We are in the municipality of Santo Domingo; the project provides food security and in addition we are providing health, medical, veterinary services,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Argemiro Andrade, commander of the Mission Support Command of the Sixth Division of the National Army.
It is noteworthy that this activity had the support of the Secretariat of Environment and Rural Development of the Mayor of Florencia who provided 130 doses of rabies vaccine and deworming of domestic animals. The Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing with a comprehensive Protection team (EMPI), presented the program Home Manager of Victims to 30 citizens with the aim of preventing the recruitment of minors.
“We thank the Army for supporting the people of the rural sector of Florencia, it is a space where we can bring children to delight a little in this time of pandemic; we thank the soldiers for the support that the Army conducts for good through these social activities,” said Jaime Uriel Mejía, a resident of the municipality Santo Domingo.
With these operations, the National Army, takes the State offer to the peripheral areas and accompanies the development processes of the communities in the territory.
