In statements given to the media, the Minister of Defense, Holmes Trujillo, said that by 2021 the goals to be met are focused on reducing the crimes that most harm the country, in terms of security.
"In terms of homicide, in the year of 2020, it was possible to accomplish the lowest homicide rate in 46 years. Based on that fact, the goal for the year 2021 is to continue with the trend of reducing homicide. For that purpose, it was made decisions that will lead to the containment of homicide and to achieve the goal of reducing the crime rates", Trujillo said.
On the other hand, regard to kidnapping, the head of the Ministry of Defense, said that in 2020 was achieved the lowest rate of kidnappings since the record of this crime.
"Based on this reality, the goal by 2021 is to continue with the trend of reducing this crime. In the year 2019, 92 kidnappings had been reported; in the year 2020, 88 kidnappings were reported; and the purpose in this new year is to decrease the kidnaps rate", he highlighted.
Regard to theft, which still being a crime that worries the National Government, the Minister of Defense said that it decreased in all its modalities in 2020 and the purpose is to continue with the reduction of theft in 2021. "It is important to clarify that the average reduction of theft in all modalities was around 30 percent", he concluded.
Trujillo said that the purpose for 2021 is to continue increasing the blows to high-value targets, and to continue carrying out important operations such as Artemisa.
Finally, regarding drug trafficking, he highlighted that were eradicated 130,000 hectares of illicit plantations. This goal still for 2021. Similarly, the objective for this year is to destroy laboratories and to seize tons of cocaine.
