With 101.9 tons of humanitarian aid, construction materials and logistical supplies for the reconstruction of the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, the multipurpose ship ARC Caribe of the General Maritime Directorate sailed.
This is the eighth ship that supports the Operación Renacer (reconstruction operation) in the reconstruction process of the islands of Providence and Santa Catalina, for the full recovery of the department after the passage of hurricane Iota that devastated the archipelago in November, 2020. The National Army, the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Air Force and the National Police have provide the inhabitants their logistical resources and human talent in order to support the work of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction of the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina.
It should be noted that this military and logistical deployment is part of the stabilization and recovery plan of the archipelago led by: the manager for the reconstruction of the islands, Susana Correa Borrero; the manager of Local Management, Lyle Newball; and the Commander of the Colombian Navy, Admiral Gabriel Alfonso Perez Garces, to whom the National Government designated as the main coordinators to carry out the Unified Operation of the State in the islands of Providence and Santa Catalina.
The operations for humanitarian assistance, debris removal, basic healthcare and the restoration of basic services (water, energy and telecommunications) have been conducted thanks to the effective coordination of the Military Forces in coordination with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the Colombian Red Cross, Civil Defense, the Fire Department and other local and national agencies of the State that are part of the National System for the Prevention and Assistance of Disasters (SNPAD).
