Fulfilling the commitment to the heroes of Colombia and their families, the Directorate of Naval Health, under the guidelines of the General Directorate of Military Health, began the first stage of COVID-19 vaccination, corresponding to medical and care personnel of the front line.
The first vaccinated of the activity, which took place this February 27, was Dr. Arturo Orlando Varela, general practitioner of the Intensive Care Unit of the Naval Hospital of Cartagena, who during the pandemic has worked tirelessly so that his patients manage to win the battle against COVID-19.
As well as him, other medical and care professionals of this Military Health establishment received the vaccines as ordered by the Ministry of Health and social protection through Decree 109 of 2021.
In order to adequately respond to the challenges of COVID-19 vaccination, the Naval Hospital of Cartagena had 4 vaccination posts that have all biosecurity and quality measures. In the same way, an observation room was allocated, where patients should stay 30 minutes after receiving the inoculation and thus prevent complications in case of having an adverse reaction.
This activity is part of the ongoing work that the General Directorate of Military Health together with the Departments of the Health Army, the Navy of Colombia and health Headquarters of the Air Force has been conducting under the PANACEA Vaccination Plan, an exclusive road map for vaccination within the health subsystem of the military forces that meets all the parameters dictated by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
In accordance to the allocation and distribution of vaccines by the National Government and the departmental and Municipal Health Secretariats, we will continue to conduct the immunization of all affiliated inhabitants, in our more than 70 vaccination posts nationwide, which have the infrastructure, equipment and professional staff trained to provide support to face this big challenge.
The General Directorate of Military Health, the Directorate of Naval Health and the Naval Hospital of Cartagena reiterate their permanent work against COVID-19 and for the well-being of the heroes of Colombia and their families.
