Soldiers of the National Army, in the municipality of Planas, attended the call of the community to transport by land to the municipality of Puerto Gaitán, Meta, a girl in delicate health, because of the bite of a poisonous snake.
Troops of the Energy and Road Battalion No.15, of the Seventh Brigade, in a humanitarian support operation, carried out the early evacuation of a six years old girl, who had been attacked near the left ankle by a four-nosed snake. The event happened in a rural area of the municipality, while she playing with other children.
The soldiers who were in the area working on territorial control were called by the civilians and they reacted immediately, to transfer her to mile 25 of the way, where they did the transfer in an ambulance, to take her to the Municipal Hospital de Puerto Gaitán, to provide the first aid in order to continue the way towards the municipality.
The municipality Planas is found in the northeast of the department of Meta, five hours from Puerto Gaitán, there the Resguardos Domoplanas, el Tigre, Santa Helena and Tivallá (indigenous reservations), among others, are located. This rural area is on the border with the department of Vichada, and the National Army continuously reaches there to provide security and contribute to improving the quality of life of the communities through Comprehensive Action. This is done in coordination with government and private institutions and indigenous governors through health activities and development support, reforestation, recreation and institutional campaigns, which benefit the inhabitants.
In 2021, the National Army in the department of Meta has carried out more than 30 activities with indigenous communities, which impacts on the well-being of approximately 600 of its members.
