Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy safeguard the lives of 19 migrants, including two minors, who were traveling on board a speedboat through the waters of the municipality of Turbo (Antioquia) towards the municipality of Sapzurro in Acandí (Department of Chocó).
The ship was traveling at unauthorized hours and failing to comply with security measures in navigation, so units of the Urabá Coast Guard Station that carried out search and maritime control operations in the area proceeded to intercept it. Upon noticing the work of the Colombian Navy personnel, the boat fled to seek a beach on the coast of Punta Yarumal, municipality of Turbo (Antioquia).
Three individuals flee the place, getting lost in the vegetation, while the 19 migrants, including a minors from Chile and others of Cuban nationality, were transported to the facilities of the Urabá Coast Guard Station, where they received food and medical assistance.
Subsequently, the foreigners were put into custody of the corresponding immigration authorities and the boat was immobilized.
With four Coast Guard units and two ships in the Gulf of Urabá subregion, the Colombian Navy will continue to carry out naval operations that safeguard human life at sea and control the maritime flow of irregular migrant-carrying ships, ensuring compliance with all security measures.
