In order to strengthen the economy of this region in Norte of Santander, the institutions came together to support the marketing of products without intermediaries.
The idea is to promote spaces of commercial agreement conducted by local buyers, and facilitate marketing channels to small producers in the region. In the Plaza 29 de Mayo in Ocaña, Norte de Santander, a peasant market was held with the participation of 23 associations; small enterprises of mothers heads of household and people who have replaced illicit plantations with productive projects.
Buyers could find on the shelves, Cacao, avocado, chicken, Panela, fruits, vegetables, handicrafts and ornamental plants. It should be noted that the most successful product was the Ocañera onion, typical of the region.
This successful commercial meeting was thanks to the work in coordination conducted by the Agency for the Renewal of the Territory (ART); the Municipal Mayor's Office; the Infantry Battalion No.15 General Santander; the Comprehensive Action and Development Support Battalion No.2; the SENA, among other institutions; that joined to bring to the municipality peasant producers form San Calixto, Hacarí, Teorama and Convención; those who are part of the RESA program and Families In Their Land of Social Prosperity, who support producers in the region to carry out their business, through collaborative activities, all this hand in hand with the Fe community development program Fe in Colombia of the National Army.
This peasant market was intended to lead to the economic reactivation of the Catatumbo region, since these producers had seen their productivity hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
