Before the overflow of the Cauca river due to heavy rainfall, in which 511 families, 1,711 people and 320 houses were hit, the Navy of Colombia, in coordination with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management – UNGRD, Colombian Civil Defence, the Special Operations Unit in Emergencies and Disasters of the National Police - PONALSAR and community leaders are supporting the distribution of humanitarian aid and the relocation of the victims in the subregion of La Mojana, in Sucre, in the six shelters conditioned so far.
In the same way, the families of the Brisas del Río and Dos de Marzo neighborhoods of the municipality of Guaranda have benefited in the first phase of care provided by troops of the Colombian Navy's Risk Management and Disaster Response Company, who deployed immediately to provide support for the emergency in the department of Sucre, which left seven thousand hectares flooded and eight bridges damaged.
This phase consists of the Evaluation of Damages and Needs - EDAN, and the digitalization of data in the Single Search for Victims - RUD, which are conducted in coordination with the Municipal Risk Management Committee in the municipality of Guaranda.
In order to verify the response operations carried out to contain the emergency in the Mojana sucreña, the Naval Institution participates daily in the Unified Command Post of San Jacinto del Cauca, south of the department of Bolívar, together with the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Agriculture, National Disaster Risk Management Unit - UNGRD, the High Council for the Regions, among other institutions, who traveled the Cauca river, specifically in the sector known as Cara de Gato, which has been determined as a critical point for greater priority for the assistance and coordination of joint efforts to prevent the impact caused by heavy floods.
