Military Gaula and Police Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) carried out the operation Demoledor, in 19 prisons in the country.
The Military and Police Gaula units, in coordination with the Penitentiary and Prison Institute, INPEC, and the Attorney General's Office, carried out the operation Demoledor, focused on raiding 19 prisons, mainly to mitigate the extortion from prison in the country.
In order to carry out checks on the country's detention centres, the Military and Police Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) carried out surprise and almost simultaneous raids on 19 prisons in order to carry out the checks and prevent extortion made from prisons, for which 600 Gaula men and women were ordered.
Prisons under intervention were in Barranquilla La Modelo; en Bogotá, La Picota y La Modelo; en Boyacá the Centro penitenciario de máxima seguridad en Cómbita; à Bucaramanga, La Modelo and Palo Gordo; en Caldas Doña Juana; en Cesar La Tramacúa; en Córdoba Las Mercedes; en Chocó Anayancy; en Cundinamarca El Diamante (Girardot) y La Pola (Guaduas); en Norte de Santander, La Modelo; à Ibagué, La Picaleña; à Medellín Pedregal, Bellavista and Belén; in Meta la Cárcel Granada and Jamundí in the departement of Valle del Cauca.
In these raids it was possible to find hidden in walls, bathrooms, handicrafts, beds and even the bars of the prisons the following elements: 1,138 simcards, more than 3,500 grams of narcotics, 453 sharp weapons, 21 SD memories, 5 modems, 64 notepad with names of unidentified persons, about two million pesos, 382 cell phones and 524 accessories for cell phones such as chargers and hands-free.
13 prosecutors, 170 officials of the Penitentiary and Prison Institute INPEC, 600 men and women of Gaula, the support of the National Model of Community Surveillance by Quadrants and 68 vehicles participated in order to carry out these judicial proceedings.
These review activities in the prisons are carried out to directly hit the crime of extortion in prison mode; most of the cases were solved as it was detected that the extortion phone calls originated in these places.
