In the course of a search and rescue operation, units of the Coast Guard Station of Barranquilla recovered the body of a minor, in the sector known as caño El Clarín, municipality of Sitio Nuevo, department of Magdalena.
The operation began once the report of the emergency was received, via telephone, by the fire officials of the municipality of Sitio Nuevo. Immediately a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of Barranquilla arrived at the site to recover the minor's body and carry out the urgent operations by the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) officials of the Prosecutor's Office of the municipality of Sitio Nuevo, Magdalena.
The body of the minor was handed over to the Sijín units of the Barranquilla National Police for the pertinent legal processes.
The Navy of Colombia regrets the loss of life of this child, and invites the community of boaters, tourists and families to implement basic safety measures prior to entering the water, streams, rivers and the sea, including not enter the water, in the case of not knowing how to swim and the correct use of the life jacket, in order to prevent emergencies that put life at risk, in particular of minors.
