During his visit to the department of Boyacá, the Head of the Ministry of Defense, Diego Molano, in the same way led a security council in Duitama. He was accompanied by the General Commander of the Military Forces, General Luis Fernando Navarro Jiménez and the Mayor of the city, Hernel David Ortega.
At the Festival of Ideas taking place in Villa de Leyva, Defense Minister Diego Molano explained that drug trafficking and the social effects of the pandemic are the main factors of violence.
“We are in the Festival of the Ideas to be able to share with a group of Colombians, progress, and challenges, that we have in terms of security, especially to recover in some areas of the country the tranquility of the Colombians, to show how drugs, with its two faces: drug trafficking and microtrafficking, generate violence,” said the Minister.
Minister Molano said drug trafficking must continue to be fought, because it is the fuel of violence and insecurity in the country, so he highlighted that the fight against drug trafficking is relentless with the manual eradication of illicit plantations and arrests against microtrafficking and the reconfiguration of these organizations.
For this reason the Minister highlighted the arrest of alias Otoniel, ringleader of the Clan del Golfo, in addition to the strengthening and work of the authorities especially urban areas.
The festival of ideas in the same way recalled that last year Colombia had the lowest homicide rate in 46 years and the lowest kidnapping rate in 37 years.
In addition, other post-covid factors were analyzed “against which we have reacted with the special deployment of our Military and Police Forces to guarantee the tranquility of Colombians.”
