In order to counteract the criminal operations of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo that have taken place in recent days in the departments of Antioquia and Chocó, the Colombian Navy in a joint work with the National Army and coordinated with the Police and local and regional authorities, has reinforced its land, river and maritime operations in their areas of responsibility, ensuring the safety and well-being of all the inhabitants of Urabá.
Through the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.16 the Colombian Navy keeps its units on the Atrato River, permanently conducting land and river patrols to prevent damage to civilians. In this sense, in the last three days the check of 118 boats and more than 400 people who transit these river routes has been carried out.
In addition, work is being done to improve the free navigability of two boats that were being held, preserving the good physical condition of all its crew members. In the first situation, a unit of the Colombian Navy was deployed on the La Honda sector in Riosucio, Antioquia, which accompanied the transit of 12 children and 7 adults of the indigenous people of Cacarica, who were being prevented from passing through the area. In the second, a boat with 30 people enjoyed the free transit by the Las Mercedes sector, which had been restricted from transit to Quibdó.
Within the framework of this operation, it was in the same way possible, together with the National Police, to arrest a member of the GAO Clan del Golfo, who allegedly was carrying out intimidation and threats to the inhabitants of the municipal seat of Bellavista, Bojayá (Chocó). In the same way, together with the National Army, it was possible to bring to justice another member of this Organized Armed Group, who was apparently conducting illegal checkpoints to civilian boats in the municipality of Las Mercedes, municipality of Quibdó, department of Chocó. The individuals were put into custody of the s authorities.
The Urabá Coast Guard Station maintains surveillance and control over the maritime routes of the region of the Punta Las Vacas checkpoint in Turbo, Antioquia, where the review of the ships transiting through this area is carried out, ensuring the safeguarding of human life at sea and ensuring the safety and free navigation for rudimentary fishing.
The security of maritime operations in the port sector of Turbo and Necoclí, especially in the cargo area of Urabá in Bahía Colombia, was reinforced with the deployment of units of the Rapid Reaction and also units of the navy to conduct patrols and control operations on the mouth of the river Leon to the cargo area, making constant patrols to increase the export processes, via radar through the Integrated Control System, Traffic Maritime and inland Waterway.
It should be noted that the River Support Patrol Boat ARC Londoño is in the same way part of this strengthened deployment in the Urabá region, carrying out supply operations and transport support to the soldiers of the National Army from municipalities such as Vigía del Fuerte, Antioquia, to Quibdó in the department of Chocó.
