Soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No.2, favored more than 300 inhabitants of the villages of Marquetalia and La Unión, in the municipality of Planadas, Tolima.
The development support activity was made possible thanks to coordination with the units of the Zeus Stabilization and Consolidation Command, Comprehensive Action Battalion No.5, No.18, the municipal mayor's office, the Planadas Hospital, the Fundación Proyecto Juntas, the Foundation Arturo Calle and the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing, ICBF.
With the support of the various institutions and professionals, general medical assistance, dentistry, medication distribution, sexual and reproductive health talks were provided.
Andrés Velásquez, secretary of the village La Unión, emphasized that activities like these strengthen the communities, “we are very happy about the activity that was carried out in coordination with the National Army, humanitarian demining, we think they are necessary activities for the well-being and the construction of the social fabric in our community.”
In turn, the inhabitants enjoyed activities such as Cinema to the park, dance contest, trampolines, balloon twisting, among others.
In the activity, Mother's Day was in the same way celebrated, 200 presents, 100 food baskets, 100 toilet kits and 100 school kits were distributed.
This is the first development support activity in that area of Planadas and it is noteworthy that the work of the mine clearance specialists is permanent; they already have conducted Non-Technical Studies and manual demining over more than 22,000 square meters of the municipality Marquetalia.
Meanwhile, the demining work in the municipality, which reports 144 victims by anti-personnel mines, including 124 of the Military Forces and 20 civilians, has led to clearing about 300,000 square meters.
