These refineries generate a severe environmental impact on the water sources of the place, in the same way causing damage to the flora and fauna of the region.
In the rural area of Sardinata, Norte de Santander, it was possible to find and neutralize an illegal refinery with approximately 60,000 liters of refined fuel, known as pategrillo, a pool with more than a thousand barrels of petroleum and other materials for production.
This illegal refinery would belong to the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 33, and would be valued at about 700 million pesos, money to be used to finance the illegal armed group and thus commit terrorist operations against the Military Forces and civilians.
These groups that commit crimes in the region steal the petroleum of the Caño Limón Coveñas pipeline and transport it to different illegal refineries, to be converted into pategrillo and used in cocaine production laboratories.
