Within the framework of World Oceans Day, the General Maritime Directorate, through the Pacific Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center (CCCP), received 200 students of the Max Seidel National High School, National Industrial Technical Institute, Santa Teresita College School and Almirante Tono Military Technical College.
During the visit, they toured the different spaces of the Research Center and lived the experience of being oceanographers, meteorologists, hydrographers and researchers, getting involved with the magic that happens when scientific research is carried out and the preservation of the oceans is ensured.
They in the same way got to know firsthand the technological tools used in the chemistry, biology and microbiology laboratories and received a brief induction on the management of oceanographic and scientific research equipment used aboard platforms, such as small boats, Pilot type boats and oceanographic ships.
On the other hand, the procedure for anchoring equipment and all the works that derive from an oceanographic research cruise were explained to them, to later conclude with the simulation in real time of a data collection maneuver.
Within the tour, which was led by the researchers of the different areas of the CCCP, the operation of the meteorological stations and the Resources of the area of oceanography and operational meteorology were introduced, reminding them the importance of scientific research carried out in the seas of Colombia, the protection of hydrobiological resources and the sustainable use of them.
