The inter-institutional effort led to the construction and commissioning of a nursery that will function as a practical classroom for the students of a local school. The ancestral knowledge of the different indigenous communities of the region was a key part of this initiative.
With the purpose of promoting environmental protection operations, based on the education processes of children and young people of the municipality of Inírida, the Colombian Navy supported the construction of an environmental learning project that will benefit more than 800 students and teachers of the Custodio García Rovira school.
The Naval Institution along with the governor of the department of Guainía, the Mayor of the municipality of Inírida, the University of the Andes, among other institutions, joined their efforts to plan and build this nursery that will lead students to learn about some plants as timber, fruit trees and medicinal plants; giving continuity to the ancestral knowledge of the various indigenous communities of the region.
On this project, which took three weeks to build, Francy Liliana Méndez Muñoz, an official of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Economic Development, said that this initiative is the basis for in the short and medium term, in coordination with the Community Museum of Guainía and other institutions, academic learning processes of ancestral botany are conducted; community expressed its gratitude to the Colombian Navy for its unconditional support with the protection of the environment and the culture of Guainía.
