12 devices of 40 kilos each were used by terrorists belonging to the Camilo Cienfuegos Group, of the Domingo Laín Sáenz Front.
In recent hours, troops of the National Army found in a rural area of the municipality of Arauquita, in the department of Arauca, 12 gas cylinders loaded with explosives of high destructive power, which had improvised manufacture ammunition. The dangerous loads were apparently planted by terrorists of the organized armed group ELN, belonging to the Domingo Laín Sáenz Front, of the Camilo Cienfuegos Group.
Thanks to the timely reaction, the members of the Military Forces reached the place of the tertiary road that connects the municipality El Troncal with the village La Pica, municipality of Arauquita. This road is used daily by children, women and peasants.
There the anti-explosive technicians, after evacuating the nearby houses and isolating the area, checked with special equipment and found these deadly traps. After controlling the situation, and after analyzing the 12 cylinders, they discovered that the activation method was by command cable and also that they were attached as a rosary, with detonating cord. These elements would have a large-scale loss in an approximately 100 meters around, which would cause a tragedy for those who live and move along this road.
According to military intelligence, the terrorist armed group ELN intended to attack against the troops of the National Army in the area, and in this way, to sabotage the commemoration of Independence Day, where at that time were military parades and ceremonies in the main municipalities of the department of Arauca.
For this reason they would have planted the 12 40-kilo cylinders loaded with explosives each, regardless of the damage they could in the same way cause to civilians. The devices were neutralized by experts in controlled conditions, and thus irreparable damage to the people who inhabit this village was prevented.
