Two arrests, three men brought to justice and two deaths in the course of military operations left by the heavy operation against the Armed Group Organized Carlos Patiño, GAO-r.
With this result, the group of alias James, allegedly responsible for the most recent homicides committed in the municipalities of Rosas and La Sierra, Cauca, is dismantled.
Thanks to a follow-up of military intelligence, troops of the National Army together with the Attorney General of the Nation, identified alias James, group ringleader of the GAO, Carlos Patiño. This individual had been sent to the municipalities of La Sierra, Rosas, among others, to conduct criminal operations and in this way expand the operations of the residual GAO in this area of Cauca.
Once identified, alias James was intercepted along with his girl partner when they were traveling on the road that leads from the Sierra to the municipality of Rosas. Initially, the troops arrested this individual for the crime of illegal carrying of weapons while judicial investigations are conducted.
The search was made on the commercial establishment where this individual was staying, finding three more members of this group, who submitted to justice. After this operation, the troops engaged combat with the rest of the members, leaving the death in the course of military operations of two of them.
During this operation, three small firearms with their respective ammunition were found by troops; the weapons were put into custody of the authorities.
With the dismantling of this group of the residual GAO Carlos Patiño, forced displacement, selective homicides and the confinement to which the civilians of these municipalities could have been exposed to, are prevented. The National Army will continue to carry out operations in the area in order to work for the comprehensive protection of the communities and the stability of the territory.
