Units of the Colombian Navy safeguarded the human life of 23 people who were in emergency aboard two ships sailing on the Amazon River.
In the first event, Coast Guard units that were carrying out patrol and control tasks, received the alert call from a Brazilian flagged ship with 19 Colombians and a Brazilian on board, which would have sailed from Leticia and would have as destination Puerto Nariño - Amazonas, being adrift in the sector known as Isla de Los Micos, apparently due to mechanical failures. Once informed of the emergency, the Colombian Sailors attended the boat that was later towed to the main pier of Leticia.
At the same time, in the Beach sector, Coast Guard units activated a search and rescue operation for a Colombian-flagged boat carrying three passengers, which would have drifted on the Amazon River, after its engines lost power. The boat along with its crew was transferred and brought to safety in the municipality of Leticia.
The Colombian Navy, through the Southern Naval Force, ratifies its commitment to preserve the safety and good physical condition of the inhabitants of the south-east of the country, while continuing to carry out awareness campaigns to encourage the maintenance of boats, as well as respecting speed limits during travel in order to prevent river accidents
