Units of the Colombian Navy rescued seven people who shipwrecked in the waters of the bay of the island of San Andrés, when the tourist transport ship in which they were traveling capsized due to adverse weather conditions.
The successful search and rescue operation began once the Traffic Control and Maritime Surveillance Tower received the emergency call of the boats transiting the sector, a Rapid Reaction Unit was immediately deployed and went to the scene of the accident.
Once on site, the crew of the Naval Institution rescued the shipwrecked people and provided the corresponding first aid, to later transfer them to the dock of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés, where they were assisted by personnel of the Emergency Regulatory Center –CRUE, who provided medical assistance and verified their good health.
The ship named Fly Yolanda & Jake was immobilized because it did not have the necessary permits to carry out people transportation or a registration number.
The Colombian Navy, through the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, will continue to carried out operations that led safeguarding human life at sea and works to raise comprehensive maritime security in the Archipelago department.
