Units of the Colombian Navy are carrying out search and rescue operations in the Magdalena River with the aim of finding and recovering the people who were in a van-type vehicle, which fell in the water when it was transported in a ferry-type boat, in the village Aura María de Gamarra – department of Cesar.
The emergency apparently occurred when the ferry type boat, in which the van was being transported, was destabilized causing it to fall into the Magdalena River and sink. Once the emergency was known, troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.17 were sent to the scene to support search and rescue efforts.
With the support of a staff of rudimentary divers of the region and the crew of the tug, the vehicle went to a depth of 10 meters. Later, with the help of the civilians, Civil Defense and the navy, it was refloated and taken to the banks of the Magdalena River, finding inside the lifeless body of one of the disappeared people. Efforts are intensifying in the area to find the two missing men, who were apparently taken by the current.
