In compliance with the Ayacucho Joint Campaign Plan, the Colombian Navy in the rural area of the Special District of Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca, using all its maritime, river and Ground Combat Battalion resources to carry out territorial control operations and preserve the security of the inhabitants, obtained the surrender to justice of eight alleged members of the Libardo García mobile column of the Residual Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia.
In an operation of unified State action with interagency coordination, units of the Colombian Navy and the mediation of the Ombudsman's Office obtained the surrender of the eight alleged members of the Residual Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia, who voluntarily identified themselves to the authorities and guided the troops of Navy Infantry Battalion No. 21 and the Colombian Navy's Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), to an area of the 12th Locality of Buenaventura, where they had an illegal weapons hideout.
During the inspection, 21 rifles, a machinegun, a 22-caliber carbine, a grenade launcher, five grenades, 6,767 ammunition of different calibers, 95 magazines of different calibers, nine electric detonators, four meters of detonating cord and one kilogram of Anfo-type explosive were found by troops. In the same way, they handed over five communication radios, ten radio antennas, 24 multipurpose pixelated vests and a bracelet alluding to the Residual Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia.
The eight individuals’ rights were respected and they are currently into custody of the Colombian Navy with the accompaniment of the Ombudsman's Office. They will in the same way be beneficiaries of the opportunities provided by the reintegration to civil society program, as well as the bonuses that are recognized to those who supply war material and ammunition at the time of their voluntary surrender.
This group of FARC dissidents had criminal interference in the Yurumanguí, Cajambre, Raposo and Mayorquín rivers where they constantly maintained armed confrontations against the Residual Organized Armed Group E6 Jaime Martínez, for the control of illegal activities.
Criminal background
In order to control all criminal activities in the southern tributaries of Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca, a criminal alliance was established in 2022 by the Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia and the Organized Armed Group ELN, the Ernesto Che Guevara front and Omar Silgado Company, in this area of the Colombian Pacific.
These individuals constantly maintained warlike confrontations against the Residual Organized Armed Group "E6" mobile column Jaime Martínez for criminal control in the villages bordering these rivers.
On April 15, 2023, in Cali, who apparently was the maximum ringleader of the mobile column Libardo García died. So, alias Leyder assumed as the ringleader, who, due to the active work of the Military Forces in the territory, had made the decision to move his group to the urban area, where he was killed in recent days, in events that are still the subject of investigation by the authorities.
As part of the Unified Action of the State, the Military Forces have carried out strategic operations to establish security conditions for the inhabitants of the rural area of the Special District of Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca.
With the surrender of these individuals, it was possible to decisively hit the criminal structure and its illicit activities in the rural area of Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca, since they cease to receive the profits from drug trafficking and the collection of money from extortion against in the sector. In the same way, the expansion of the Residual Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia on the Pacific Coast is blocked.
