Along with the National Civil Status Registry office and the Criminal Investigation Operational Group of the National Police, efforts are being coordinated to train more than 2,000 soldiers of the Eighth Brigade on electoral crimes, in order to act under the principle of anticipation, to study the current security conditions, in view of the elections that will take place in the month of October of this year.
The National Army will have more than 2,000 units, including men and women, in the departments of Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda who will be at 93 polling stations, with the purpose of using all its resources to generate the necessary security conditions for the free exercise of democratic rights and electoral processes in the Coffee Axis region.
In order to anticipate situations that may arise in the different municipalities and villages that may violate the right to vote of citizens, the Army is working on preventing the materialization of electoral crimes, through unified operation that links institutions such as the National Civil Status Registry office, the Police and the Attorney General's Office, to train the personnel who will be in the communities, and polling stations in the three departments.
Thus, based on previous coordination with the National Civil Registry office and the National Police, it was established that 24 polling stations will be distributed in the department of Quindío that will count on the troops.
Similarly, in the department of Caldas there will be 61 polling stations throughout the territory, which will be guarded by the men and women of the Eighth Brigade and in Risaralda they will be at seven polling stations, safeguarding the security of their fellow citizens who participate in this celebration of democracy.
It should be noted that, according to the operational analysis carried out by the units of the Eighth Brigade, and the reports provided by the Ombudsman's Office on early electoral alerts, so far, it is concluded that the polling stations will be according to plans in the three departments, given the appropriate security conditions to ensure the normal progress of the electoral activity that will take place during the month of October 2023 in Colombia.
