Thanks to the quick reaction of the soldiers of the National Army and the prompt air evacuation conducted by the Aerospace Force, it was possible to provide the medical assistance necessary to save the life of a peasant who was injured by an improvised explosive device.
The unfortunate event occurred in the morning hours of the last Sunday, July 23, in the village of La Florida, in the village of El Palmar de La Llanada, Nariño. There the Military Forces received information that an inhabitant of the sector, while carrying out his work in the field, unfortunately activated an explosive device, which led to serious injuries to his right foot and some injuries to other limbs.
Mr. José Luis, 50, was taken on a journey of approximately 12 kilometers by uncovered road to take him to the municipal downtown, because the terrain conditions did not make it possible to conduct aerial extraction.
After that the authorities held a security council, where the National Army and the National Police initiated the necessary steps so that the Aerospace Force, through an air requirement, could execute the aeromedical evacuation.
For its part, the National Army conducted the pertinent to prepare the landing space of the aircraft and deployed its soldiers to secure the sector, making possible its transfer to the city of Pasto. In the capital city of Nariño, Mr. José Luis received specialized medical assistance, thanks to the joint efforts and coordination conducted by the Military Forces and the National Police, in commitment to the life of this peasant.
It should be mentioned that in this area of the department of Nariño there is a dispute over the mobility routes used for drug trafficking by members of the Jaime Toño Obando company, of the organized armed group ELN, and members of the Franco Benavides Structure, of the residual organized armed group, who install these explosive devices to hit the troops and the communities of the sector.
