In a coordinated and inter-institutional operation conducted by Colombian National Army, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, it was possible to arrest 11 alleged members of the GAO Clan del Golfo in the villages of Aguas Blancas and Mariangola de Valledupar, Cesar, among whom is alias El Toro the area ringleader of this structure.
This important operation carried out by the troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Cesar of Colombian National Army and the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of National Police, led to the effective arrest of these 11 individuals for the crimes of association to commit crimes for extortion purposes, manufacture, trafficking and carrying of firearms and ammunition, extortion, and, four of them, for homicide.
These individuals were allegedly extorting money from merchants, ranchers, farmers and palm growers in the municipalities of Agustín Codazzi, copey, Bosconia and Valledupar, actions that hit the tranquility in the department.
Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plan and as part of the commitment to the safety and well-being of the inhabitants, the soldiers in this region of the country are constantly conducting military operations to counter the criminal actions of organized armed groups.
