The Colombian Navy, within the framework of the transparency and zero tolerance policy against corruption, and during an interagency operation with the technical investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General's office and the Drug Control Administration of the United States (DEA), arrested five on duty Non-Commissioned Officers of the Naval institution and two individuals, who allegedly facilitated the trafficking of narcotics towards the United States.
The arrests took place simultaneously in Cartagena - Bolivar, San José del Guaviare - Guaviare and in Miami - United States, in compliance with court orders issued by the Attorney General's office and judicial authorities of the United States, for alleged crimes related to drug trafficking.
According to the investigations carried out by the Attorney General's office, these people were apparently in charge of leaking operations information of the strategic units of the Colombian Navy, which carry out operations against transnational drug trafficking crime in the Colombian Caribbean. This information would lead criminal organizations to establish illegal routes for the movement of Go Fast boats loaded with narcotics outside of the country, evading the operations of maritime authorities.
The individuals arrested in Colombia were put into custody of the Attorney General's office and the individual arrested in the United States must face charges before the authorities of that country.
